# Manage a suspended Discovery service of Public Cloud Databases for MongoDB

## Objective

The Discovery plan of Public Cloud Databases for MongoDB (`db2-free` node type) reaches its end of life. Discovery services are suspended on 31 October 2026, then deleted on 30 November 2026 with all their data.

**This guide explains what happens when your Discovery service is suspended, and how to reactivate it to retrieve your data or switch it to the Production plan before it is deleted.**

## Requirements

- A [Public Cloud project](https://www.ovhcloud.com/pl/public-cloud/) in your OVHcloud account
- A MongoDB service on the Discovery plan
- Access to the <ManagerLink to="/">OVHcloud Control Panel</ManagerLink> or to the <ApiLink>OVHcloud API</ApiLink>. If you have never used the OVHcloud API before, follow this tutorial: [First Steps with the OVHcloud APIs](https://docs.ovhcloud.com/pl/guides/manage-and-operate/api/first-steps.md).

| 31 October 2026 | Suspension: Discovery services are stopped. They can be reactivated at no extra cost, to retrieve their data or to switch them to another plan. |
| 30 November 2026 | End of life: Discovery services are deleted, with all their data. |

### Understanding the state of a suspended service

In the Control Panel, a suspended service has the `Suspended` status. While it is suspended:

- your applications can no longer connect to it;
- its data is kept, as it was at the time of the suspension, until 30 November 2026;
- its settings, users and authorised IP addresses cannot be modified.

You then have three options:

- [reactivate the service](#reactivating-your-service-to-retrieve-your-data) to retrieve your data, free of charge;
- [switch the service to the Production plan](#switching-your-service-to-the-production-plan) to keep it with its data;
- do nothing: the service and its data are [deleted on 30 November 2026](#deletion-of-the-service).

### Reactivating your service to retrieve your data

Reactivation is free and restarts your service so that you can export your data.

**OVHcloud Control Panel**

1. Select your MongoDB service, then open the <code className="action">Configuration</code> tab.
2. In the `Service` section, click <code className="action">Reactivate service</code>.
3. Confirm by clicking <code className="action">Reactivate</code>.
The status of the service changes to `Updating`, then to `Available` once the reactivation is complete. This takes a few minutes.

**OVHcloud API**

Get the ID of your Public Cloud project, also known as `serviceName`:

🇪🇺EU▾

[GET/cloud/project](https://api.eu.ovhcloud.com/console/?section=/cloud&branch=v1#get-/cloud/project)

Get the ID of your MongoDB service, also known as `clusterId`:

🇪🇺EU▾

[GET/cloud/project/{serviceName}/database/mongodb](https://api.eu.ovhcloud.com/console/?section=/cloud&branch=v1#get-/cloud/project/-serviceName-/database/mongodb)

Reactivate the service with the following API call:

🇪🇺EU▾

[POST/cloud/project/{serviceName}/database/mongodb/{clusterId}/unshelve](https://api.eu.ovhcloud.com/console/?section=/cloud&branch=v1#post-/cloud/project/-serviceName-/database/mongodb/-clusterId-/unshelve)

The call takes no request body. The response contains the service, with the `UPDATING` status. The call is refused with a `409 Conflict` error if the service is not suspended, for example while a reactivation is already running.
Monitor the status of the service with the following API call, until it is `READY`:

🇪🇺EU▾

[GET/cloud/project/{serviceName}/database/mongodb/{clusterId}](https://api.eu.ovhcloud.com/console/?section=/cloud&branch=v1#get-/cloud/project/-serviceName-/database/mongodb/-clusterId-)

### Retrieving your data

Once reactivated, your service has:

- its data, as it was at the time of the suspension;
- its users, with their roles and passwords;
- its authorised IP addresses;
- the same connection information as before the suspension.

Export your data with `mongodump` by following the guide [Backup and restore a service with the CLI for Public Cloud Databases for MongoDB](https://docs.ovhcloud.com/pl/guides/public-cloud/databases/mongodb-howto-backup-restore.md).

If a user cannot authenticate, reset its password: open the `Users
` tab, click the `...
` button at the end of the user's row, then click `Reset password
` and confirm. The new password is displayed only once: note it down.
:::warning
A reactivated service that remains on the Discovery plan can be suspended again every night from 15 November 2026.

Retrieve your data, or switch the service to the Production plan, as soon as the reactivation is complete.

:::

### Switching your service to the Production plan

You can switch a suspended service to the Production plan without reactivating it first. The service is reactivated, then migrated to the Production plan with its data, and is not suspended again.

Billing for the Production plan starts as soon as the switch is made. Prices are available on the [Public Cloud prices page](https://www.ovhcloud.com/pl/public-cloud/prices/).

**OVHcloud Control Panel**

1. Select your MongoDB service, then open the <code className="action">Configuration</code> tab.
2. On the `Plan` row, click <code className="action">Edit</code>.
3. In the `Modify plan` window, select the <code className="action">Production</code> plan, then click <code className="action">Edit</code>.
The status of the service changes to `Updating`, then to `Available` once the migration is complete.

**OVHcloud API**

Use the following API call:

🇪🇺EU▾

[PUT/cloud/project/{serviceName}/database/mongodb/{clusterId}](https://api.eu.ovhcloud.com/console/?section=/cloud&branch=v1#put-/cloud/project/-serviceName-/database/mongodb/-clusterId-)

With the following request body:
```json
{
  "plan": "production",
  "flavor": "db2-2"
}
```
For more information on plan changes, see the guide [Update the plan of Public Cloud Databases](https://docs.ovhcloud.com/pl/guides/public-cloud/databases/update-cluster-plan.md).

The switch takes longer than a reactivation: allow about 30 minutes. Your service is then a Production service with `db2-2` nodes. Its data, connection information, users, passwords and authorised IP addresses are kept.

### Deletion of the service

On 30 November 2026, Discovery services are deleted, with all their data. Once deleted, the data cannot be recovered.

If you do not need your service or its data, you have nothing to do. To delete the service before 30 November 2026, use the following API call:

🇪🇺EU▾

[DELETE/cloud/project/{serviceName}/database/mongodb/{clusterId}](https://api.eu.ovhcloud.com/console/?section=/cloud&branch=v1#delete-/cloud/project/-serviceName-/database/mongodb/-clusterId-)

If the reactivation or the switch to the Production plan fails, [contact OVHcloud support](https://help.ovhcloud.com/csm?id=csm_get_help).
